About UNIGET
Every summer, students leaving Sheffield throw away furniture that works perfectly well, while students arriving a few weeks later buy the same things new. Desks, kettles, drying racks, microwaves — into a skip in June, out of a shop in September.
It happens because the two groups never meet. Whoever is leaving is in a hurry, whoever is arriving is not here yet, and the only place they overlap is a WhatsApp group where messages disappear within hours and nobody can tell what is still available.
UNIGET is an attempt to fix that. List what you are getting rid of, browse what other students are selling, and see whether something is still available before messaging about it.
Students only
You can only sign up with a university email — @sheffield.ac.uk or @hallam.shu.ac.uk. There is no open sign-up, so everyone you meet here is a current Sheffield or Hallam student. That is the whole trust model, and it is why no listing needs a badge telling you the seller is real.
Moving out
Listings carry a move-out date. Within three weeks of it, the listing is marked moving out — the seller has a flat to clear before a flight, so they reply quickly and they will negotiate. You can filter the whole site down to those.
Who runs it
A student at the University of Sheffield. UNIGET is not run by, endorsed by, or affiliated with the University of Sheffield or Sheffield Hallam University.
It is free. There are no fees, no commission on sales, and no advertising. Nothing you sell is taken a cut of — arrange the sale and the handover between yourselves however you like.
Staying sensible
UNIGET introduces people; it does not vet them, hold money, or take any part in the exchange. Meet somewhere you are comfortable, look at the item before paying, and trust your judgement. A university email proves someone is a student — it is not a character reference.
